Carrie's pad sells for whopping sum

Carrie's pad sells for whopping sum, ‘Sex and the City’ Townhouse Sold for $9.85 million, The apartment of Sarah Jessica Parker's "Sex and the City" character looks nothing like it did on TV. The apartment at 64 Perry Street in Manhattan's West Village will likely forever be known as Carrie Bradshaw's home in "Sex and the City." And now it's got a new owner — and they should get ready for tour bus gawkers. The five-bedroom apartment sold for $9.85 million earlier this month to an anonymous buyer, but is listed as MMKK Perry Street Realty LLC in city records, as noted by The New York Observer.

The property was originally listed for $9.65 million in March with Sotheby Realty. The sale of the home was a surprise, given that it was bought less than a year ago for $9 million. But the owners flipped the property for a small profit.

The townhouse's facade was the original setting for many Carrie Bradshaw scenes on the show — and which was actually supposed to be the Upper East Side -- until producers moved next door to 66 Perry Street.

At about 4,104 square feet, the house is actually much larger than what was depicted as Carrie's one-bedroom apartment on "Sex and the City." The floor plan shows four floors with a basement and includes a sunroom and backyard. As a freelance journalist in one of the most expensive cities to live in, Carrie Bradshaw would never have been able to afford such expansive digs.

The 1866 home isn't just famous for "Sex and the City" though. Built by architect Robert Mook, it also was the spot of a six-decade romance between documentary filmmaker Wheaton Galentine and architect Harold Eliot Leeds, according to a New York Times feature.
